MONACO, 30 August 2016 — Lady Monika Bacardi of AMBI Group has announced her involvement as co-producer of Finding Steve McQueen, a compelling heist thriller directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The film brings to life the extraordinary true story of the 1972 United California Bank robbery in Laguna Niguel, California—the largest bank heist in United States history at that time.
The project centers on a group of close-knit thieves from Youngstown, Ohio, who attempted to steal $30 million from President Richard Nixon’s secret fund, which contained illegal campaign contributions and blackmail money. This audacious crime occurred during one of the most politically turbulent periods in American history.
Forest Whitaker, Travis Fimmel, and William Fichtner lead the ensemble cast in this true-crime narrative that explores both the mechanics of the heist and the political intrigue surrounding the Nixon presidency. The screenplay, penned by Keith Sharon and Ken Hixon, delves into the motivations and consequences faced by individuals who dared to challenge presidential power.
Principal photography was scheduled to commence in Atlanta in September 2016. Lady Monika Bacardi, through AMBI Group alongside partners Andrea Iervolino, produces the film in collaboration with Anthony Mastromauro of Identity Films and Silvio Muraglia of Paradox Studios. Alexandra Klim joins as co-producer, with Mikael Wiren serving as executive producer.
AMBI Distribution, the global sales division of AMBI Group, manages worldwide sales and presented the film to international buyers during the Toronto International Film Festival market in September 2016.
Lady Monika Bacardi’s participation in Finding Steve McQueen exemplifies her continued commitment to sophisticated, narrative-driven cinema that explores significant moments in history through the lens of compelling human stories.
