MONACO, 25 March 2014 — Lady Monika Bacardi attended The Climate Group’s 10th Anniversary Gala, held at the prestigious Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. The distinguished evening, hosted under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and co-organized with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, brought together international leaders, philanthropists, and cultural figures to celebrate a decade of climate action and to advance the urgent mission of addressing global climate change.
Lady Monika Bacardi, known for her deep commitment to environmental causes and sustainable development, joined over 100 distinguished guests at the Salle Empire. Her presence at this milestone event underscored her ongoing dedication to supporting organizations that drive meaningful climate action and promote environmental stewardship on a global scale.
The Climate Group, founded in 2004, has established itself as an influential force in advancing low-carbon solutions worldwide. The organization works with leading companies, states, and communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while demonstrating that climate action can be economically beneficial for all stakeholders. Over the past decade, The Climate Group has helped shape groundbreaking legislation, created the Verified Carbon Standard for voluntary carbon offsetting, and led transformative initiatives including the EV20 electric vehicle coalition.
In his address to attendees, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco reflected on the progress achieved during the organization’s first decade: “In ten years, we have seen the emergence of a new discourse on energy transition, a transition that everyone knows is now a source of growth, development and employment, as evidenced by the increasing investments made throughout the world, including in countries long sceptical, such as the United States or China. I therefore hope that the next ten years will allow us to move forward on the ambitious path you have chosen.”
The evening featured a performance by celebrated British artist Paloma Faith, whose powerful showcase of songs captivated guests. A highlight of the gala was a dynamic auction conducted by Sotheby’s Lord Harry Dalmeny, offering extraordinary experiences including a two-day journey with H.S.H. Prince Albert II aboard the renowned TARA research vessel, a seven-night stay at Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island, and exclusive cultural experiences. The funds raised through the auction supported both The Climate Group and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in their vital climate initiatives.
The gala was supported by the Dutch Postcode Lottery and BMW, with BMW providing an innovative shuttle service using their BMW i3 electric vehicles, demonstrating the practical application of sustainable mobility solutions that align with the evening’s environmental focus.
Lady Monika Bacardi’s attendance at The Climate Group’s anniversary celebration reflects her broader philanthropic vision—one that recognizes the essential connection between environmental protection and global wellbeing. Her participation in such distinguished events continues to reinforce her position as a dedicated advocate for initiatives that address the defining challenge of our time: climate change.
