MONACO, 3 May 2017 — Lady Monika Bacardi attended the launch of Borderline, a monumental exhibition by French contemporary artist Philippe Pasqua, at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. The distinguished event brought together prominent figures from Monaco’s cultural community to celebrate the opening of this unique artistic experience.
As a member of the board of Les Amis du Musée Océanographique de Monaco, Lady Monika Bacardi demonstrated her ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that unite art and science in service of ocean conservation. Her presence at the inauguration underscored her dedication to cultural projects that raise awareness about the fragility of marine ecosystems.
The Oceanographic Museum, a Monaco institution since its founding, serves as both a center for marine science and a venue where art and environmental consciousness converge. Philippe Pasqua’s Borderline exhibition exemplified this mission perfectly, challenging visitors to reconsider their relationship with nature through powerful artistic expression.
Philippe Pasqua presented twelve monumental works throughout the museum spaces, including seven original creations specifically designed for this venue. From the museum’s forecourt to its panoramic terrace, and along the cliff beneath the century-old building, Pasqua’s large-scale sculptures and installations created a dialogue between artistic vision and marine conservation.
The exhibition’s title, Borderline, reflected Pasqua’s artistic approach of pushing boundaries and confronting viewers with the dilemmas facing our oceans. His work, both visceral and thought-provoking, invited guests to engage emotionally with questions of environmental protection and biodiversity.
“The Oceanographic Museum is also a place where art and science meet, with the aim of sensitizing visitors about the fragility of the oceans and the imperative need to protect them,” noted museum officials about the exhibition’s significance.
Lady Monika Bacardi’s attendance at the Borderline launch represented her broader philanthropic vision — one that seamlessly integrates support for the arts with meaningful advocacy for ocean preservation. The exhibition ran through 30 September 2017, offering visitors an immersive experience at the intersection of contemporary art and marine conservation.
