The film was produced by AMBI Group, founded by Lady Monika Bacardi, and represents the first time a pontiff has appeared in a feature film.
Beyond the Sun is a modern family adventure based on the Gospels, intended to spiritually engage audiences of all ages. The film tells the story of children from different parts of the world who embark on a journey to understand the teachings of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis makes a cameo appearance as himself, delivering an inspiring message to the young protagonists.
The film was directed by Graciela Rodriguez Gilio and Charlie Mainardi, with filming taking place in Patagonia, Argentina, and Vatican City. Lady Monika Bacardi served as producer through AMBI Group, demonstrating her commitment to cinema that explores profound spiritual themes.
Following its Vatican premiere in September 2017, Beyond the Sun was released theatrically in Poland in April 2018 and subsequently on digital platforms in the United States in May 2018. The project received guidance from Monsignor Eduardo Garcia and proceeds from the film benefit charitable causes.
The film earned recognition at the 22nd Capri Hollywood International Film Festival, where it received the Capri Educational Award for its uplifting message and family-friendly content.
